By 9:40 p.m., some drivers began to report signs of movement. According to updates around 9:55 p.m., vehicles between junctions 4 and 5 were finally easing forward, and by around 10:20 p.m., traffic flow had mostly returned to normal.
At 10:21 p.m., reporter Joseph Timan confirmed the end of live coverage for the evening, noting that “the congestion has now cleared.” But the mystery of what caused the M56 to freeze in place for so long remains unresolved — and that’s what has many drivers scratching their heads.
