Get ready for an epic wrestling showdown! Kyle Dake, a legendary American wrestler, is set to rewrite history. With an impressive resume boasting Olympic medals, World Championships, and NCAA titles, Dake is far from done pushing his limits.
At RAF 5 in Florida, Dake has the chance to rewrite a chapter from his past. He's facing Mahamedkhabib Kadimagomedov, the man who stunned him with an 11-0 upset at the 2020 Olympics. Dake, the favorite for gold, suffered a devastating loss, but he bounced back to claim bronze. And now, thanks to Real American Freestyle, he's getting his long-awaited rematch.
"I wrestled 'Kadik' in 2021, but I wasn't at my best," Dake recalls. "I was injured and focused on cutting weight. It's no excuse, but I gave it my all. I lost, but I came back stronger and won bronze the next day. I'm proud of that achievement, but I've been yearning for this rematch ever since."
Dake and Kadimagomedov's paths have crossed multiple times since, but they've never faced off again until now. "We sat together in the sauna at the Paris Olympics, and I asked him about his plans. He said he wanted to keep wrestling, and I knew I had to challenge him again."
Kadimagomedov, who took silver at the Olympics, signed with Bellator MMA but never stepped into the cage. Instead, he returned to wrestling, setting up this highly anticipated rematch.
Dake insists it's not about revenge. "I love competition, and this is a chance to test myself against a formidable opponent. Every match is meaningful; I want to give my best, no matter the circumstances."
Dake praises RAF for creating these unique opportunities, allowing him to compete more frequently and sharpen his skills. "Normally, we have months between tournaments, but RAF keeps me busy and presents these exciting challenges."
If Dake triumphs over Kadimagomedov, he has his eyes set on other potential opponents, including fellow American wrestler Zahid Valencia, who defeated him twice to qualify for the 2025 World Championships. But the real excitement lies in the possibility of facing a UFC fighter interested in wrestling, just like the RAF 5 main event featuring Colby Covington vs. Luke Rockhold.
Dake proposed a grappling match with UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov years ago, and he's eager to make that happen now. "I welcome any top UFC fighter to step into the ring with me. Most UFC veterans in RAF haven't had much success, but I'm confident someone will take up the challenge."
"It's fun to see these transitions from wrestling to MMA," Dake adds. "There are always 'what ifs.' If so-and-so had stuck with wrestling, they might have been Olympic champions. Let's see where they stand now. If they can compete, let's go!"
The inclusion of UFC veterans in RAF brings much-needed attention to the sport of wrestling. "It adds notoriety," Dake explains. "People recognize names like Colby Covington, Arman Tsarukyan, and Luke Rockhold from their MMA careers. Unless you're a super fan, you might not know them from their wrestling past."
"But with RAF, you get to watch these stars compete alongside wrestlers like Kennedy Blades, Kyle Dake, and Wyatt Hendrickson. It's a unique opportunity to discover new talents and see them shine."
So, will Dake emerge victorious in this highly anticipated rematch? And will we see him face a UFC fighter in the future? The answers await at RAF 5!
