Get ready for an exciting twist in the world of racing! Toyota's bold move into the V8 battleground has everyone talking.
Walkinshaw TWG, formerly associated with Ford, has now embraced Toyota as its new partner, becoming the official homologation team for the Japanese automotive giant's entry into this intense racing arena.
But here's where it gets controversial... Toyota has boldly emblazoned its branding on the race cars driven by Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood. The GR logo proudly adorns the quarter panels, while the windscreen banners showcase the full name: Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia. A bold statement indeed!
Despite the new partnership, Walkinshaw has retained its base colors, with Optus and Truck Assist continuing their naming rights deals. A subtle reminder of the team's identity amidst the change.
The team's CEO, Bruce Stewart, couldn't be prouder. In a last-minute rush to get the Supras ready for the grid in Sydney, he praised his squad's efforts. "We are honored to unveil our Mobil 1 Optus Racing #1 and Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing #2 Toyota GR Supras. Toyota's entry is a game-changer, and we are grateful for the trust placed in us."
And this is the part most people miss... Walkinshaw's hard work and dedication have resulted in two stunning GR Supras ready for round 1. The number 1 on Chaz Mostert's car is a real honor, and the team is as hungry as ever to prove themselves.
There will be a total of five Toyotas on the grid this season, with Brad Jones Racing joining Walkinshaw in this exciting venture. BJR finally received its first Toyota engine and is set to reveal and test its own Supra soon.
Toyota Australia's vice president, John Pappas, acknowledged the challenges, stating, "We've been pushing through setbacks to get here. Our partnership with Walkinshaw TWG Racing has made this possible. We're excited to see what we can achieve on the grid!"
Mostert's machine will hit the track on Monday for testing at QR, and then it's off to Mount Panorama for more laps during the 12-Hour weekend. Get ready for an action-packed season!
