Dodgers News: A Look at Recent Developments and Unsettling Issues

The Dodgers' White House Visit: A Controversial Decision

The Dodgers' visit to the White House to celebrate their 2024 World Series win has sparked controversy. Fans and journalists alike urged the team not to go, given President Donald Trump's divisive tenure in Washington DC. While Dave Roberts previously hesitated on a visit in 2019, and Mookie Betts declined to visit to celebrate the Red Sox's 2018 win, both were present during the Dodgers' last visit. Despite the Dodgers' acceptance of an invitation to return for their 2025 victory, the team has yet to make an official statement and declined to comment when approached by The Athletic.

Dave Roberts told the Los Angeles Times that he would attend if the organization accepts this year's invitation. "I've never tried to be political," he said. "For me, I am going to continue to try to do what tradition says and not try to make political statements, because I am not a politician."

Dodger Stadium Workers' Unionization Efforts: A Setback for Workers

Dodger Stadium's 55 tour guides were notified on Wednesday that they will be receiving raises, despite failed union efforts to demand higher compensation. The Dodgers and guides' union — the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees — had reached an agreement on a contract, but it failed to be ratified by members twice before they decertified the union in January. Still, the Dodgers raised pay from $17.87 to $24 an hour to account for the dramatic influx of tourists at Dodger Stadium over the last few years.

IATSE president Nicole Miller attributed the Dodgers' decision to increase hourly pay to the union's prior efforts despite its eventual dissolution.

Full World Baseball Classic Rosters Revealed

Full World Baseball Classic rosters were announced on Thursday. Nine players in, or formerly in, the Dodgers organization (seven major leaguers) will participate for the United States (Will Smith and Clayton Kershaw), Japan (Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto), Puerto Rico (Edwin Díaz), Korea (Hyeseong Kim), Great Britain (minor league pitcher Antonio Knowles), Israel (minor league third baseman Jake Gelof), and the Netherlands (minor league pitcher Shawndrick Oduber).

Roki Sasaki said at DodgerFest that his absence from Team Japan was at the Dodgers' request. Ohtani will not perform two-way duties for Japan, but will be ready to do so by major league Opening Day.

But here's where it gets controversial... The Dodgers' decision to attend the White House visit and the stadium workers' unionization efforts have sparked differing opinions. What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with the Dodgers' decisions? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
